How do I use my Americorps stipend?

View  your account at MyAmericorps.gov.  From this site, you can request forbearance, request payments, and view the balance of your account.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are requesting funding for your licensure coursework:  You must request a certification of Americorps/Teach for America funding a minimum of thirty days prior to the beginning of classes for each semester.  This will allow ECU to classify your account as “has made arrangements to pay” and place a “hold against drop” on your schedule.  This hold is automatically placed on your account from the cashier’s office when the Americorps/TFA funding request is approved by ECU financial aid office.

Is my Americorps stipend taxable?

The Americorps stipend is considered by the IRS to be taxable income during the year that you use it.  We urge you to plan ahead for this expense and consult your tax advisor for more information.
